Mario Abreu

Head of CSR and Sustainability, Ferrero

Mario Abreu has been the Head of CSR and Sustainability for the Ferrero Group since April 2020. A Brazilian and Portuguese citizen, Mario has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and has been working in the fields of sustainability and the environment for over twenty years while living and working in Belgium, Canada, Portugal and Sweden. He also has a post graduate diploma in Environmental Decision Making from the Open University, and has undergone extensive training in Business and Sustainability, Climate Leadership and Sustainability Leadership with the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, apart from several management trainings at the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland, the Ashridge School of Management in the U.K., and Fundação Getulio Vargas in Brazil. He is based in Luxembourg.

Prior to his current position with Ferrero, Mario was the Vice President of Sustainability for the Tetra Pak Group in Lund, Sweden (1999 – 2020). He has served as a Trustee for the British charity Proforest Initiative, a member of the International Board of Directors of the Forest Stewardship Council (2007 – 2012), a Co-Chair of the High Conservation Value Forest Initiative, a Board member of The Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment, and a member of the Technical Advisory Group for the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi). He is likewise one of the founders of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI).
