KL Eco Film Festival Launches with Special RSPO Film Category

The 11th International Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (KLEFF) was launched on Monday, 29 January, announcing the theme of “Forests, Water and Climate Change” for 2018. The country’s largest and longest-running environmental film festival was hosted at Vivatel Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, in partnership with the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), River of Life (ROL), Publika Shopping Gallery, Tanamera Tropical Spa Products, and Kuala Lumpur Malay Chamber of Commerce (KLMCC).

Festival Director Fadly Bakhtiar said: “At KLEFF, our mission is to enhance the public’s understanding of the environment through the power of film. This year’s theme furthers that goal by highlighting the importance of forests and rivers in reversing or slowing down climate change. We are looking forward to the local and global submissions to illustrate the need and urgency to protect our planet from further environmental degradation.”

In line with the theme, film enthusiasts were encouraged to enter this year’s KLEFF with either a Public Service Announcement (PSA), Animation, or Short Film under the RSPO’s special film category; “i Saw-it”, which aims to highlight the impacts of sustainable production of palm oil.

“We believe that this platform would allow creative individuals, including those working with companies within the palm oil supply chain, to showcase their talents and ideas on propagating the awareness of sustainable palm oil” said KLEFF founder, Yasmin Rasyid. “Ultimately, we would like brands such as RSPO members to leverage on the creative resources enabled by this platform to communicate out to the consumers as well as internally.”
