The Executive Board of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil is pleased to announce that Darrel Webber has been appointed as the new Secretary General of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil.
Darrel is a familiar figure in the RSPO. He comes from a post as Senior Associate of Global Sustainability Associates, a subsidiary of New Britain Palm Oil Limited, where he advised the NBPOL Group on implementation of the RSPO P&C. Prior to that, from 2007-2009, he represented WWF International on the RSPO Executive Board during his role as a senior Manager, responsible for palm oil sector engagement. Darrel comes with great commercial management experience, having led large teams in a variety of sectors including Oil&Gas and Manufacturing.
Darrel was selected as the Secretary General from a field of 44 highly qualified candidates from around the world. The shortlisting process was carried out by CSR Asia and Egon Zehnder, and the top candidates were subject to formal assessments and interviewed by a multistakeholder panel drawn from the Executive Board.
Darrel Webber will be in the lead of a new and restructured organisation, consisting of a four-strong team of senior Directors and a team of specialist managers. He will be joining the RSPO on 17th January. Darrel will replace Rikke Netterstrom, who has been the Interim Secretary General since August 2010.
The Executive Board wishes to thank Rikke for taking care of Secretariat matters in an interim role and congratulates Darrel on his appointment. They are confident that Darrel will meet the future challenges and opportunities of the RSPO.
