The Little Soap Company has recently made big steps towards sustainability and reforestation efforts with the launch of its latest product, the Eco Warrior Special Edition SOS Hand & Body Bar, which is proudly made from 100% RSPO certified sustainable palm oil and palm kernel oil. Aligned with the company’s founding vision, the soap is part of a range of products that are cruelty-free and use ethically-sourced natural ingredients as well as plastic-free, biodegradable packaging.
The UK-based, award-winning handcrafted soap company is taking the sustainability initiative even further by pledging to donate 25p for every bar of soap sold to the Sumatran Orangutan Society (SOS), to help plant seedlings in Sumatra, Indonesia, as part of the society’s forest regeneration and conservation mission.
“We at the Little Soap Company have never believed that boycotting palm oil is the answer,” says founder Emma Heathcote-James. “Instead, we want to play our part in transforming the industry. We may be a small company, but we want to add our voice to the growing call for palm oil companies to produce responsible palm oil and stop deforestation. The whole sustainability challenge is vast and that’s why the Little Soap Company has been working closely with SOS since conception, to explain why and how they’re also contributing to breaking the link between palm oil and the destruction of the orangutan habitat.”
Safeguarding Sumatran Orangutans
SOS is dedicated to ensuring a safer future for wild Sumatran orangutans and their forest habitats through a holistic approach in developing conservation programmes and partnerships, fundraising and capacity building. Since their foundation in 2001, they have supported their frontline partners and forest-edge communities to plant over two million trees and assist in the rescue of over 200 orangutans so far, and continue to work on new solutions to save endangered orangutans in the wild.
Helen Buckland, Director of SOS said, “SOS and Little Soap Company have been collaborating for many years to get the word out about deforestation-free palm oil. Thanks to Little Soap Company using only certified sustainable palm oil in their soaps, their customers can buy with confidence – and now, with the launch of the gorgeous new Eco Warrior bar, they'll be supporting forest-edge communities to protect and rewild the orangutans' forest home in Sumatra, too.”
In the spirit of shared responsibility, the Little Soap Company is one of a growing number of enterprises around the world adopting sustainable palm oil to help protect fragile ecosystems and vulnerable wildlife. As unsustainable oil palm agriculture can have damaging impacts on the environment, potentially destroying the habitats of unique animal species such as orangutans, using RSPO certified sustainable palm oil ensures that oil palms have been grown sustainably and in line with the RSPO Principles and Criteria (P&C), in a space where palm oil agriculture and the environment can co-exist, primary and secondary forests are protected, and wildlife habitats are not harmed.
