Revision of RSPO New Planting Procedure (NPP) 2015 in alignment with the RSPO Principles and Criteria (P&C) 2018

Following the recent adoption of the RSPO P&C 2018, the RSPO Secretariat will be revising the New Planting Procedure (NPP) to align its requirements with the new standards.

RSPO Secretariat will facilitate the review of this document and will follow ISEAL Alliance best practices and RSPO’s SOP in standard settings. Technical experts within the relevant Task Forces, Working Groups, Reference Panels, as well as RSPO members will be consulted to ensure the revision is comprehensive. The draft document will then be published on the RSPO website for a period of 30-days for public comment.  All comments and input will be gathered through email submission at [email protected]

We anticipate that the document will be presented to and endorsed by the RSPO Board of Governors (BoG) in June 2019.

In the meantime, the requirements of the NPP (2015) shall remain effective with the following conditions:

  • All assessment, processes and completion relating to NPP submitted shall follow the NPP 2015. (HCV, GHG, SEIA, FPIC, etc.)
  • However, in the application of HCV-HCS assessment, the rules stipulated in Annex 5 of the P&C 2018 shall be applied accordingly.
  • For any NPP submission after 15 November 2018, the grower needs to ensure that there is no planting on peat, clearance of any HCV-HCS areas, and the Certification Body (CB) that verifies the NPP must ensure this requirement is met.
  • Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) is done in accordance to the FPIC guidelines from RSPO (this includes the CB checklist in assessing FPIC in NPP)
