Companies in China and Ecuador Pioneer Use of RSPO Trademark

The Chinese market has witnessed international consumer goods manufacturer Ming Fai Enterprise International Company Ltd committing to sourcing 100 percent RSPO certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO), as well as becoming the first Chinese company to use the RSPO Trademark on their product packaging.

The company has been a member of RSPO since 2014 and specialises in producing high quality and trusted five-star travel amenities and bath products, for renowned hotel brands, airlines, and the hospitality and personal care industries. With five production bases across China, Ming Fai also recently expanded its operations, opening factories in India and Cambodia.

RSPO’s China representative, Yun Jiang, said that besides being the first company in China to promote the RSPO label on products, “Ming Fai has also demonstrated their commitment to responsible sourcing of palm oil, and promoting sustainable palm oil to downstream players in China. We are glad to see a huge step like this from an RSPO member in China, and we believe this is just the beginning. When Chinese consumers see the RSPO Trademark, they will soon acknowledge the efforts that sustainable palm oil players have committed to, aiming to make sustainable palm oil the norm in China.”

Organic Supply’s organic, RSPO-certified palm oil is ‘very well received’ by market

Across the globe in Ecuador, where the market for sustainable products may still be limited, there is a fast-growing segment of well-informed consumers looking for sustainable products. Organic Supply, a small Ecuadorian company primarily producing goods for export, recently started making small-batches of organic, RSPO-certified palm oil. The oil comes from 31 smallholders who achieved RSPO certification in 2017, and who work closely with the company to meet RSPO standards.

Organic Supply is the first company to use the RSPO Trademark on a consumer-facing palm oil product in Latin America, which is currently being sold in 17 stores nationwide. Rodrigo Paez, owner and manager of Organic Supply, said, “to our surprise, the product has been very well received and each batch sells out faster than the previous one, so we have a clear indication that sustainability is becoming a factor in purchase decision making among consumers here. We foresee the need to expand our market presence with our certified products.”

RSPO congratulates both Ming Fai Enterprise International Company Ltd in China and Organic Supply in Ecuador for being market leaders in their respective regions, staking their claim and cementing their commitment towards making sustainable palm oil the norm.
