RSPO statement on UK progress report

Great news today from the UK, where the UK Statement on sustainable palm oil has just announced new figures that show UK imports of certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) rising to as much as 93% of all palm oil imported.

Welcoming the UK Statement report, Darrel Webber, RSPO Secretary General said “On the occasion of the RSPO’s 13th Annual Roundtable Meeting (RT13) where we are discussing RSPO’s efforts to prioritize uptake of  CSPO in key regional markets, this announcement is a boost for efforts to make all of Europe’s palm oil sustainable by 2020.

The results have been published today on Gov.uk and show that imports of segregated and mass balance certified sustainable palm oil and purchases of GreenPalm certificates by UK companies in 2014 were equivalent to an estimated proportion 72% (increasing from 55% in 2013) or 93% (increasing from 71% in 2013) of UK palm oil imports (excluding derivatives and finished goods) depending on the baseline trade data used.

The challenge now, for the UK and all other European markets is to keep the momentum beyond 2015 and push on to the 100% CSPO target for Europe in 2020.

Further details of total UK palm oil consumption and imports plus an explanation about the different data sources used can be found in the latest 2014 Annual Review which is available at -(https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/uk-consumption-of-sustainable-palm-oil-annual-review)
